WAP ACCESS HELP
Once you successfully login to Jamego, you can access the fully featured WAP site where
you are able to chat, manage your address book, check and send emails, SMS messages and much more all
from your WAP capable mobile phone!
What is WAP?
WAP stands for "Wireless Application Protocol". Basically it is a way for special mobile phones (that are pretty common now)
to access the Internet and browse special web pages that are designed for mobile phones. If you have a WAP capable mobile phone
then you can use Jamego on it!
The most cost efficient way is if you have a GPRS or CDMA capable phone and service.
Some of the older WAP phones will dial up to connect to the internet and this will charge you your normal rate
per minute which could get expensive. But the newer GPRS and CDMA phones usually only charge you for how much data you transfer.
Check with your mobile provider as to how they charge you for accessing WAP sites and what the cost is.
Does My Mobile support WAP or need setting up for WAP?
Most modern mobile phones do support WAP access. However you need to check the manuals that came with your mobile,
or your mobile manufacturers website or contact your mobile service provider (e.g. Vodafone) and they should be able
to tell you.
Some phones, while they support WAP, require setting up to work with your mobile providers WAP system. The best way
to achieve this is to ring up your mobile provider (e.g. Vodafone) and ask them how to go about ensuring your phone
is setup for WAP access. In many cases your phone will already be set up!
Can I see an example of WAP?
Yes! There are several "Online WAP Emulators" that run on your computer. One major provider of these emulators is
Yospace.com. They have a section where you can view their demonstration
Java WAP emulators which run right in your web browser!
Note: The Yospace software is not in any way affiliated with Jamego. Jamego takes no responsibility for any problems that you may encounter with the Yospace WAP emulator demo
or any problems that may occur with your computer as a result of using the Yospace WAP emulator demo. You will need to have Java installed with your web browser in order
to use the Yospace WAP emulator demo.
We have included a tutorial to guide you through using the Yospace WAP emulator demo:
(IMPORTANT: It is possible that once logged in, choosing some of the menu items may appear to log you out. This could be a problem with the communication
between Yospace and Jamego - but rest assured that on a real phone it all works fine!)
| 1. |
You must LOG OUT of Jamego first. You can access this guide from the Jamego menu even when logged out. |
| 2. |
Open a new browser window and go to the Yospace emulators site
Yospace Nokia emulator demo page.
Yospace Ericsson emulator demo page.
Yospace Motorola emulator demo page.
|
| 3. |
The following examples have been done with the Ericsson T65 emulator. |
| 4. |
When you have chosen which emulator you want to use you need to select from the "Launch options" as to how you want to view
the emultator. Note that the controls vary quite a lot from emulator to emulator as they emulate the real phones which have
quite differing controls. |
| 5. |
When you launch the emulator you need to wait for it to load up the Yospace home page.
|
| 6. |
Then click the "Go URL" link at the bottom left of the window which will pop up an entry box. Put www.jamego.com in this box and click OK.
|
| 7. |
It will take a little bit of time to load depending on your internet connection speed. First the Jamego WAP splash screen will appear
briefly and then the Login page will appear where you put in your username and password. It can be a bit tricky to get to the point of being able to type into the field.
Some of the Nokias make you choose the word "Select" from a menu that pops up when you click on a field. When you are able to enter text
you just enter in using your keyboard - put your username in.
|
| 8. |
Once you have entered in your username you need to do the same procedure for entering in your password.
When you have done that you need to choose the [go] link which will log you in. If you made a mistake it will
say "Invalid username or password" and you will have to login again.
|
| 9. |
If you manage to successfully login you will see the main Jamego WAP menu!
