SMS Messaging Help

Jamego is all about messaging - and part of that messaging is with SMS!

What are SMS Alerts and SMS messages?
 
  • SMS Alerts - These are messages that Jamego sends out to alert you or your friends that you have received email to your jamego email address while offline or that you have sent a chat invitation to a friend or received an invitation to chat from a friend.
     
  • SMS Messages - These are messages that you send like email from Jamego. You send these to people in your address book or to any text capable mobile number you enter*. They can reply to those messages and you receive the reply in jamego just like you would an email to your jamego account!


    So how do I use SMS alerts?
    SMS alerts are already a part of your Jamego account, you simply configure when and how you want Jamego to alert you. Under the Edit Profile section for your account you specify WHEN you want to receive alerts:
     
  • Tell me about email I receive to my Jamego account when I am offline
     
  • Tell me about chat invites I receive when I am offline

    Then under the Notifications area you specify HOW you want to receive alerts:
     
  • None.. (You won't get any alerts)
     
  • SMS Only (You only get a text msg)
     
  • Email Only (You only get an email to the email address you gave us when signing up)
     
  • SMS and Email (You get both a text msg and an email!)

    When you receive an email to your jamego email account when offline we will alert you depending how you have selected to be told. When you send out a chat invite the person you send the invite to will get an alert depending on how they have set themselves up to be notified. And when someone sends you a chat invite you get an alert depending on how you have set yourself up to be alerted.

    So how do I use SMS messages?
    SMS messages need to be activated first. When logged in we will check if you have activated SMS messaging, if you haven't you can get to the activate page from under the "Cool Stuff" menu on the side, or from "Send Email/SMS" or "Purchase SMS messages".

    When you choose to activate SMS messaging we will text you a PIN number to the mobile phone you registered with when you signed up. It is important that you have entered in the correct mobile number and selected the right country code (e.g. 64 for NZ) and country.

    When you get this PIN on your mobile you then enter that into the box that comes up in place of the activate SMS messaging instructions (after you have clicked "Activate>>" to send yourself the PIN). Putting the correct PIN in activates SMS messaging for your account!

    You can Send and receive SMS messages from both the Jamego WEB site and the Jamego WAP site via your WAP capable mobile phone!

    You can then send and receive SMS messages to and from your Jamego account but with a couple of rules:
     
  • You can send SMS messages to people in your address book or to any text capable mobile number you enter*.
     
  • You can only send one SMS message to one person at a time.
     
  • Your SMS messages can only be 100 characters in length.
     
  • You can only send SMS messages as long as you have SMS messages left


    How many SMS messages and alerts do I get?
    You get 25 SMS alerts a month and 5 SMS messages a month. When those have run out you can purchase more under the "Purchase SMS Messages" section of your "Account" page.

    * SMS messages cannot be received by all countries or all mobile providers.
